The Upper East Side has no shortage of nail salons but I don’t dare set foot into most. Between the chemical smells greeting you at the entrance and toxic products being used on customers, they don’t fit into my lifestyle.
But a short walk from my old work stomping grounds in NoMad sits Sundays Studio a vegan and nontoxic nail salon focused on health and wellness. It’s a hidden secret as you could miss it if you didn’t know to look for it. On a very rainy Tuesday, I put my hair up and stopped in for a 2 in 1 meditation and nail treatment as well as a signature foot treatment.
Choosing a nail color when I walked in was simple. I went for one of Sundays exclusive nail colors that was closest to what I usually pick. I’m a creature of habit, what can I say? All of Sunday’s nail polishes are 100% free of animal byproducts and aren’t tested on animals.
Lemon water was offered and I chose nail art to step out of my usual two coats and nothing else manicure comfort zone. I figured it was as good of a time as any to do something a little different. The manicure included a detoxing lemon soak and organic homemade cream massage.
During my manicure, Satechi headphones were put on me and I listened to Day Five of the guided meditation chosen for me. It’s designed to help with focus, memory, increased confidence and overall wellness. While I listened citrus essential oil was used on my hands and waved in front of me. When the meditation ended, the iPod gave me a chance to share it.
My signature foot treatment was unlike any other. I am incredibly ticklish so pedicures usually result in me squirming through my appointment. Not once did that happen as my feet left the mineral sea salt soak. It really was the perfect pedicure. I also loved that the offered reading material wasn’t the standard IQ reducing glossies found at other nail salons.
Sundays is one of a kind.
