“One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain.” ― Bob Marley
Attending GovBall is my favorite way to start my birthday month!
Live music really makes me happy so joining the thousands of other music lovers on Randall’s Island with my friend LeAura – as VIPs thanks to Bacardi! – is something I look forward to every June!
GovBall is my happy place.I don’t have to get on a plane or plan a road trip in order to attend GovBall. And since I live on the Upper East Side, I could technically walk to it. (In year’s passed, LeAura and I walked across the bridge to East Harlem after GovBall was over for the night.)My biggest concern about attending GovBall? Outdoor festivals run the risk of being rained out so I find myself planning a weather appropriate outfit and packing for both the festival days and nights. After all, nothing can ruin a good time than leaving something at home that you really need.
Thankfully, the VIP areas are stocked with chargers and other necessities we could have forgotten. All we had to do was listen to music, eat and document our silliness. OK, my silliness.I have to give props to the organizers because when it comes to food options they make sure everyone is taken care of. Even me. The girl who ran right over to Marty’s V Burger and ordered the Shroom Steakhouse Burger along with the saltiest of fries. While it’s not the healthiest of meals, I don’t expect summer festivals to offer what I eat on a daily basis.
I’m really just at GovBall to hear some of my favorite musicians sing live. And to listen to some new artists. I love the vibe of everyone around. The crowd is made up of attendees far younger and much older than me — all just happy to hear some tunes. And when the sun sets, and the last song is sung, everyone leaves.
Some come back the next day. Some, the following year.
