I can count the number of yoga classes I’ve taken on both hands and still have room. I don’t say that because I’m proud. Most of the yoga classes I’ve attended were brand sponsored because I have a habit of accepting health and fitness invites. ProjectOM and Denise Albert recently hosted a free Vinyasa yoga class at Yogaworks SOHO.
Project:OM is a partnership between Susan G. Komen and Manduka Yoga to battle breast cancer over Mother’s Day weekend with a series of yoga classes and limited edition merchandise.
Most noteworthy of the merchandise is the limited capsule collection by David Allen, a Chicago based tattoo artist who specializes in covering up the scars left behind by mastectomies. He painted a gorgeous yoga towel [$100] and yoga mat [$300] for ProjectOM. Hearing the news that 100% of sales from the ProjectOM x David Allen Collection benefit Susan G. Komen® makes me happy. These are truly gifts that give back.
ProjectOM tapped Kristin McGee to lead us in a Vinyasa Yoga class on the David Allen yoga mats. While Vinyasa is one of the most popular forms of yoga, I am definitely a beginner yogi.
The sweaty and faced paced “flow” class was a different experience for me than previous yoga classes. [And I’ve taken a class before led by Kristin McGee.] Maybe it was because on these yoga mats stood women directly affected by Breast Cancer. Maybe it was because ProjectOM reminds me of the impact that the one million ProjectOM participants can have. I just know I felt inspired after class.
Positive change starts from the ground up and Susan G. Komen wants to reduce the current number of breast cancer deaths in the United States by 50% by 2026. That goal can be achieved by helping on and off the mat. So follow #ProjectOM to learn how you can help. Namaste!
